What makes Bioduct sustainable?

Biobased & Recyclable

Bioduct thermos is produced using biopolymers obtained from up-cycling waste olive pomace, an industrial byproduct. This innovative material called Biopura, developed by Biolive, a Turkish biotechnology startup, is a world-first production technology.

Responsible Consumption

You can avoid the use of bioplastics made from sugar or starch based resources, which have food value, and prevent microplastic formation. Additionally, you directly support Biolive, the biotechnology startup founded by a female entrepreneur.

Lower Carbon Footprint

You can reduce your reliance on petroleum-based and single-use plastics, minimizing environmental damage and lowering your carbon footprint.

Technology

The material is:
> Completely obtained from plant based wastes and has no food value,
> 100% Biobased & Compostable in its pure form,
> Aims to minimize the use of petroleum based materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s first define two basic terms:

“Biodegradable” and “compostable” are terms that are often used interchangeably, but they actually have different meanings.

“Biodegradable” refers to a material that can be broken down naturally by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the material will break down completely or that it won’t leave behind any harmful residue. “Biodegradable” products need to be separated and sent to industrial degradation/composting facilities, so they unfortunately don’t just disappear in nature.

On the other hand, “compostable” refers to a material that can break down completely and safely in a compost environment, where it will turn into nutrient-rich soil. This means that not only will the material break down naturally, but it will also provide nutrients to help grow new plants. The down side of “compostable” products is the use of resources that could become food for people.

In simpler terms, biodegradable means a material can break down, while compostable means a material can break down and turn into something useful for the environment.

So, Bioduct is neither a biodegradable nor a compostable product. It is intentionally designed and produced to be long lasting and completely recyclable.

We work in collaboration with Biolive and source our raw material from Biolive. You can get in touch with us or directly with Biolive for raw material your needs too. Click for more information on Biolive’s story.

Bioduct contains approximately 30% biobased content which is derived from waste biomass.

Bioduct thermos is tested and certified for food contact. Biobased Content (Carbon-14) measurement and certification is still in progress. The certificates mentioned above are obtained for Biopura, our raw material.
